Towner Hill Preserve, Sherman
46 CT-37 E, Sherman, CT 06784
81 acres
The Towner Hill Preserve features impressive glacial erratics. These massive boulders were left behind at the end of the last ice age. This hike begins with a steep incline along a boulder field that gives geology enthusiasts plenty of reasons to pause, admire, and rest. A pair of glacial erratics marks the top of the climb. The rolling loop at the top offers beautiful views to the east after the leaves fall. In the early spring, vernal pools host many species of frogs, toads, and salamanders.
NCLC preserved this property in 2008 with funding from the State of Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Program, United States of America Department of the Interior Fish and Wildlife Service Highlands Conservation Program, and the Town of Sherman Land Acquisition Fund.
