Sweetcake Mountain Preserve

Sweetcake Mountain Preserve is a stunning property comprising an open deciduous forest, a dense mountain laurel understory, hemlock stands, and rock outcroppings, such as the “Comber.” From the summit, Sweetcake Mountain Preserve offers spectacular views of Candlewood Lake. The Fox family donated this property to preserve the land in its natural state, ensuring it remains in its original condition for perpetuity. There are about 2 miles of trail winding through the forest and passing the “Fox Family Memorial,” an outcrop of bedrock inscribed by the Fox children honoring their parents, Dorothea and Charles Fox, who were longtime residents of New Fairfield.

Parking is available at the preserve entrance, both directly in front of the trailhead kiosk and across the street in a gravel parking area.
