Alexandra “Roo” Wheeler

Roo Wheeler recently retired after a long career in the philanthropy and nonprofit sector, directing major capital campaigns and managing institutional transformation. Her most recent tenure was at The Juilliard School, where she served as vice president and chief advancement officer, raising $280 million over six years. Roo also spent over 17 years at the Whitney Museum of American Art and oversaw the successful completion of a $670 million campaign to build and support the museum’s downtown Manhattan home. Prior to that, she held roles at Cambridge in America, The Fund for Dance, and The Joffrey Ballet. She began her professional journey working for the Senate Judiciary Committee in Washington, D.C.

Roo divides her time between Brooklyn, New York, New Milford, Connecticut (where she has had a home for over 25 years), and Lake Tahoe, Nevada. She serves on the board of her alma mater, the San Domenico School in San Anselmo, California. Roo holds a BA in history from Brown University.
